Hallway Reno Recap | Charmer in Alexandra

Our hallway renovation was all about enhancing the character of this 1900s mudbrick house while adding some modern influence. What was once dark and dated, is now trendy, light, bright and breath-taking! Watch our Hallway Reno Recap to see how we did it!

Tips for a Hallway Renovation

  1. Keeping the character of a house doesn’t mean you need to keep all the original elements. We added new and on trend products like the large pendant lights and the loop pile carpet.

  2. Light is so important to your interior rooms. A dark space makes the room feel small and impacts on the feel of a house. The hallway was without any natural light, so the dark timber in the ceiling and wall panels made the space feel even darker, so we went with a white and warm green colour scheme and added large pendants.

  3. Practise patience when you prepare to paint! This space took FAR more time to prep than to paint. We went through every gap in the tongue and groove panelling and filled it. We sealed all the timber so the original stain wouldn’t come through the new paint. Every hole or dent was filled. Every surface was sanded. Expect to spent two thirds of your time on surface preparation when you paint.
