After living in 8 different homes since we have been married - we have finally found a property we want to settle down in and make our family home! Our newest property takes us back in time to a classic 1970’s family home in original condition and needing a total renovation. It is a 70s time capsule with plenty of character, and needing plenty of work to give it new life for another 50 years! Have no doubt - this will be our biggest renovation yet, and if that isn’t enough, it will be the first time we have renovated purely to create a family home. We can’t wait!
Located in a beautiful green setting in Rodney, North Auckland, it has a rural outlook and the bonus of views down to the sea. This home was originally built to accommodate a family of six, and only had 1 owner since its been built. The property has 10 acres of sloping land with native bush, a 5-bedroom family home, and a 2-bedroom minor dwelling Alice’s parents live in. There are big dreams and plans for our Dream Reno - and while we scheme and dream for our ultimate renovation - we are going to take on small scale makeovers to make our home our home.
Join us on this journey as we discover what it will take to finally create our Pearson Family Home through the journey of That 70s Reno!
The Floor Plan
This house is double the size of what we have ever lived in. With 4 small bedrooms into a living space, perfect for our 4 children, and a large Master, ensuite and office at the end of the home. It has a separate dining and 2 living spaces with a large kitchen. We fell in love with the bedroom layout, flowing into a family room which reduces the amount of hallway. And of course the orientation down the valley to maximise the outlook.
The House… and those Patterns
What are your favourite features in our Retro Reno? How great is that patterned Axminster carpet. The Frigidaire oven and stovetop. Different patterned wallpaper in every room… So many bold choices and patterns. It’s obvious a lot of thought went in to the plans and design of this home. Some parts we love - we are known for a bit of bold wallpaper ourselves. But much is showing its 50 year life, and not sure if the carpet fits into our new colour scheme.. So while we live in it, we are getting to know what we like and don’t like, how we live in it, and compiling plenty of ideas.
In our kid’s room transformation, we embark on dramatic before-and-after changes and vibrant spaces. Our latest blog is filled images of our renovated rooms, a breakdown of the expenses and a list of the items we used. And showcases our new design territories and newfound trust in our children's colour choices!
